Emily Parker is a wonderful parent, room mom, PTA president, and community leader.  She is the board president of HYFA and still holds down a full time job.  Mrs. Parker has the drive, creativity, and love needed to get things done.

As a classroom mom, Mrs. Parker has come after school to decorate the classroom for every holiday; she works closely with her team of volunteers.  She is sure to meet witht he teacher weekly to collaborate and stay abreast of standards and activities that need to be covered by volunteers.  She works to make a difference in the school as a whole.

Mrs. Parker has provided many meaningful experiences for our students this year.  At Thanksgiving, representatives from the Chucalissa Museum brought instruments for the students to play.  To celebrate Dr. King's birthday, Mr. Brian Hicks from the DeSoto COunty Museum came to speak about Black History Month.  He connected the Civil Rights Movement to DeSoto County and the role of Hernando.  During Read Across America Week, she and a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math programs) committee collaborated to come up with Read Across America STEM Day, which consisted of seven stations that tied in with Dr. Seuss books and fun math and science activities.  Her daughter's teacher stated, "It is evident that she is dedicated to her child's education, as well as each and every child in our class."

This is just a sampling of all she does.  Emily Parker is an outstanding parent in DeSoto County and we believe she represents our district well.
