10/15-10/19

Reading Comprehension skills: Review skills- inferences, character, change, and text structure: compare and contrast, cause and effect, sequence, description/main idea, problem & solution. (see newsletter) New skills- figurative language(see newsletter)

Spelling Words: special, paragraph, shoes, change, break, clothes, strange, inside, empty, live, nine, pretty, push, gave, quickly, phone, chief, page, patch, dusty

Writing- The students will write an expository nonfiction piece by collecting information from provided articles.

Language: The students will identify and use common and proper nouns

Math- The Students will add and subtract 3 digit numbers, continue to estimate and measure liquid volume in Liters (L) and Milliliters (mL), determine whether to measure the weight of an object in Grams (g) or Kilograms (Kg), solve word problems involving all four operations with grams, kilograms, liters, and milliliters, and round numbers to the nearest ten’s and hundred’s place. IXL- BB. 14, BB.15, and P.1

Science- Motion, Matter, and Magnets

 * 10/19- Multiplication Fact Fluency Test- Students will complete 50 problems in 5 minutes. Facts on the test will include 0,1,2,3,5,6,&10

Important Information

 

*If students participate in the Science Fair, 5 points will be added to the lowest test grade in reading and 5 points will be added to the lowest test grade in math during the 2nd nine weeks if their project is completed correctly.

·          Reluctant – if you are reluctant to do something, you do not want to do it

  “Have eyes in the back of your head” – if you have eyes in the back of your head, you seem to be aware of everything that is happening around you –even things you cannot see

Cluttered – if a place is cluttered, it is messy; there are things scattered here, there, and everywhere

  Handy – useful or easy to use

Whoosh – move very fast; when something whooshes, it makes a rushing or hissing sound

    “Have a change of heart” – if you have a change of heart, you change your opinion or the way you feel about something
