Our “STAR STUDENT” is  Laeden Moore!

 

 ELA Skills/& Standards

Reading:    Identify and use nonfiction text features.  (title page, table of contents, headings, subheadings, photographs, illustrations, text boxes, captions, glossary, index) ask and answer questions about key details in a nonfiction test.  Describe how reasons support specific points the author makes in a text. We will review the author’s purpose for writing a text.  (to persuade, to inform, or to entertain)  The test will be next Friday.

Writing: We will continue writing narrative stories with a topic sentence, several details, and a conclusion.(W.2.3), We will revise and edit to get our final published piece for a grade. (W.2.5)  We will begin writing friendly letters.

Grammar:  Identify and use verbs.  We will identify and use action verbs and linking verbs.

Vocabulary:  solid- hard and firm

mushy-soft and wet like mush

slurp- eat or drink something in a noisy way.

dull-not bright, colorful, or shiny.  boring or not interesting or exciting.

Math: We will  skip count by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, & 100’s.  Students will practice mentally adding and subtracting 10 or 100 to a given number. 2.NBT.8 Example: 200-10=190 and 200 +10=210  We will also compare 3 digit numbers and putting them in order from least to greatest and greatest to least.   2.NBT.4 We will take a test on Friday!  Our timed test will be mixed with addition and subtraction!

Homework

Monday- Complete the math sheet.  

Tuesday-  Complete the reading sheet.  Get your graded papers and your PROGRESS REPORT signed.  Go over what you missed and learn from your mistakes!!!  

Wednesday- Study spelling and vocabulary words.

Thursday- Complete the homework sheet and spelling 

                   sheets.

Upcoming Tests 

Friday- We will  have our MIXED timed fact fluency quiz. Students will work 25 subtraction/addition facts in 5 minutes.  Spelling Test-Friday the students will be tested on 15 words with spelling patterns we have been studying.  We will take a test on skip counting, mentally adding/subtracting 10 or 100 to a given number, and listing numbers from greatest to  

   least or least to greatest in the correct order.

Grammar: Review collective, common, and Proper Nouns.  Identify and use singular and irregular plural nouns.  Identify and use collective nouns.   (a group of things-Example: a school of fish)  Use plural nouns adding -s(cat/cats) , es-(bush bushes), change y to i and add es (baby/babies), change an F to a V and add es (wolf, wolves).  change the spelling (man/men), and no change (sheep/sheep) .

 

Vocabulary: 

fragile-easily broken or destroyed

sip-drink something slowly, 

         swallowing only small amounts.

              A picky person likes only certain things.

attract-get the attraction of people or animals and 

                cause them to come closer

Math: We will introduce skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, & 100’s.  Students will practice mentally adding and subtracting 10 or 100 to a given number. 2.NBT.8

Reading: Identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story and explain what each part does.  The beginning introduces the characters and setting.  The middle tells the events of the story and introduces the problem.  The end tells the solution to the problem.   We will review the point of view and answering the 5 W questions.  

 

Writing: We will create lists of writing ideas. We will continue writing narrative stories(W.2.3), revising/editing with help from teachers and peers(W.2.5), and share our writing(W2.7).  Students will hear & discuss good writing.  We will create and use compound words in our writing. Grammar: Students will identify and use the 4 different type of sentences (interrogative=asking,  declarative=telling, imperative=command,  and exclamatory=showing emotion) .  We will write complete sentences with a subject and predicate, correct capitalization, and appropriate punctuation.(L.2.2)

Writing: We will create lists of writing ideas. We will continue writing narrative stories(W.2.3), revising/editing with help from teachers and peers(W.2.5), and share our writing(W2.7).  Students will hear & discuss good writing.  Students make lists to generate ideas.  Students write about personal experiences.

Grammar: Students will identify and use the 4 different type of sentences (interrogative=asking,  declarative=telling, imperative=command,  and exclamatory=showing emotion) .  We will write complete sentences with a subject and predicate, correct capitalization, and appropriate punctuation.(L.2.2)

Vocabulary: synonyms & compound words

hurl- throw something hard and fast

pester -keep bothering or annoying someone

glare -look at someone or something in an angry way

overalls- pants with shoulder straps and a top part that covers the chest. Overalls can be worn over clothing. (L.2.4d)

We will continue to review previous learned words. 

Upcoming Tests

Friday-  Spelling Test *The students will only be tested on 15 words. Two of them will not be on the spelling list, but will follow spelling patterns we have been studying.

 A Comprehension Reading Assessment will be on Friday. I will be testing each child’s reading level over the next 2 weeks.  I will do this 3 times this year.  F&P reading assessments will be done now, before Christmas, and in April.

Math Assessment- Adding and Subtracting using a number line, one step word problems, and place value.

*Remember to wear Tennis Shoes on Monday for P.E.
