About the Teacher:

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!!!

My name is Amanda Ferguson. This is my first year in DCS. However, this will be my 14th year as a school based Speech-Language Pathologist. I have a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Communication Sciences from Delta State University. I also have a Masters degree in  Communicative Sciences and Disorders from THE University of Mississippi (Hotty Toddy). I am the proud mother of a five year old daughter with special needs (or as I like to say with special superpowers). As a speech therapist and a mother to a nonverbal child, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a passion of mine. I am currently in the process of becoming LAMP certified by The Center for AAC and Autism. We all have something to say, no matter what the means of communication. I absolutely love working with children everyday and I am very excited to get to serve the children of DeSoto County.

Using his AAC device, a friend once told me, "a speaking person doesn't go anywhere without their voice. So, why should someone who uses AAC to speak go somewhere without their voice?"
