It’s full S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) ahead this year at the Hills! We are so excited about our science curriculum! The new science standards are going to be infused into all aspects of our day. Learning is so much more fun when one has hands-on experiences!
Another addition to our curriculum is handwriting. While we have always taught manuscript and cursive handwriting in the classroom, we have not assessed it. The new state standards require that students be tested one time between 3rd and 5th grades by the district for mastery of reading and writing cursive. This year 2nd grade will reinforce manuscript the first semester and introduce cursive handwriting the second semester. Meanwhile, third grade will begin the year teaching cursive handwriting. The adopted style of handwriting for DeSoto County Schools is Zaner Bloser. You can google additional resources online to do extra practice at home.
As always, we are thrilled to begin another year! Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need anything. Feel free to call 662-429-9117 for assistance.
Have a wonderful school year!
