So proud of Hernando Hills Elementary School for being named one of Mississippi’s Emerging Science of Reading Schools for the 2026–2027 school year!

This award reflects the hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff. They continue to learn, grow, and refine their practice to ensure every child receives the instruction they need to become a skilled, confident reader.

They earned this recognition, and as their principal, I couldn’t be prouder! Thank you for doing what’s best for kids and believing in what they can achieve.

We are grateful to Cory Uselton, Desoto County School Board members, DCS leadership and MDE for celebrating with us and supporting our teachers. Thank you to our PTA for the festive balloons and to Duane Case, with Bailey Education Group, for the cookie cake!

The purpose of this award is to recognize school nurses that go above and beyond within the community that is their school. These nurses epitomize teamwork and collaboration, gentleness and kindness, knowledge and compassion. Each nomination will be read and shared with the recipient nurse. Recipient(s) for the award will be decided by the Nursing Team at The Board of Education and selected each December.
