About the Teacher

Hi, my name is Melissa Durham and this is my 12th year teaching Special Education at Hernando Hills. I grew up in Hernando and am a product of the great schools.

I received my BS in Child Development with a minor in Special Education from Delta State University in 1992. I obtained my teaching certification through the Mississippi MAPQT program. I graduated from Arkansas State University in May 2019 with a Masters in Special Education.  I strive to help my students reach their fullest potential.

On a personal note, I have been happily married to my husband Bennie for nine years and we are the proud parents of two dogs and three cats. My husband and I own Big Muddy Coffee Co. and have proudly won “Best Coffee Shop in DeSoto County” four years in a row. In my few moments of leisure time, I enjoy listening to books on tape and watching Animal Planet and  the ID channel.

Announcements

3/26/20- Parents please have your child reading 20 minutes a day. This interaction could be them reading to you, you reading to them, or listening to an audio book. I want them to learn to love the adventures they can experience while interacting with a book.  I will have Read Theory passwords on my website tomorrow.

3/25/20- I will be contacting each of you individually about your child's IEP goals.  Our goal during this national crisis is to help your child maintain skills that they have already learned this year. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.
